London Mavericks produced a commanding performance to secure their first victory of the season, overpowering the Birmingham Panthers with an emphatic 76–49 win. From the opening whistle, the Mavericks showed intent, composure and attacking flair, gradually taking control of the contest before pulling away with authority in the second half.

The opening ten minutes saw both sides go toe-to-toe, with the early exchanges tightly contested as each team settled into the match. The Panthers showed their energy early, but the Mavericks defence-led by the ever-active Jamie Golob and Razia Quashie-worked tirelessly to disrupt attacking flow and apply pressure across the court.

As the quarter progressed, Mavericks began to find their rhythm. In the final five minutes, Emma Thacker ignited the attack with a series of crucial Super Shots, landing them at key moments to give the visitors momentum. With the defence winning ball and the attack converting confidently, the Mavericks edged ahead and closed the quarter with a strong 20–11 lead.

The second quarter belonged firmly to the Mavericks as they looked to stamp their authority on the game. George Inger was quick out of the blocks, dictating the attacking tempo and creating opportunities inside the circle. The team’s structure and positioning stood out, with the Mavericks moving cohesively and supporting one another across the court.

Their patience in possession and disciplined defensive work began to stretch the Panthers. While the hosts managed to land a late Super Shot in the closing seconds of the half, it did little to halt the Mavericks’ momentum. A confident and cohesive team performance saw the visitors extend their advantage to 35–23 at half-time.

The second half began with Hannah Knightbridge entering the court for Izzi Phillips, and she wasted no time making an impact. The defensive unit continued to apply pressure, with Knightbridge producing a brilliant intercept out of nowhere that helped swing momentum further in the Mavericks’ favour.

In attack, the connection between George Inger and Emma Thacker remained sharp, with clear communication helping keep the scoreboard ticking over. Charli Fiddler also made her presence felt, disrupting multiple feeds and limiting the Panthers’ attacking options.

At around the 35-minute markJemma Donoghue applied immense pressure to force a turnover, allowing Inger to find space in the shooting circle and calmly convert. The Mavericks continued to build their advantage and ended the quarter with a commanding 50–35 lead.

With victory in sight, the Mavericks continued to showcase their depth. Izzi Phillips returned to court to steady the midcourt, while Donoghue produced a spectacular flying intercept that brought the Mavericks bench to its feet.

Head coach Tamsin Greenway then used her 90-second tactical timeout to reset and introduce fresh attacking energy. Emily Andrew and Amelia Hall entered the game and immediately added spark to the closing stages.

Andrew and Inger combined to finish the match in style, each landing long-range two-pointers to underline the Mavericks’ dominance. It was the perfect ending to a performance built on teamwork, defensive pressure and clinical shooting.

By the final whistle, the Mavericks had delivered a complete performance, sealing a convincing 76–49 victory and recording the highest score in the Netball Super League so far this season.
