Introducing our third addition to the 2027 squad, London Mavericks are delighted to welcome experienced defender Josie Huckle back to the club. Returning to where her Netball Super League journey began, Huckle arrives from Manchester Thunder with a wealth of experience, leadership and a proven track record of success at the highest level.

After first joining Mavericks in 2012, Huckle quickly established herself as one of the league’s most consistent defensive talents. Over the past decade, she has built an outstanding Netball Super League career, winning five league titles across spells with Surrey Storm, Wasps and Manchester Thunder while earning a reputation as one of the competition’s toughest and most reliable defenders.
Huckle made the move to Manchester Thunder ahead of the 2023 season, initially joining as a training partner before securing a place in the playing squad. She played an important role in Thunder’s defensive unit, helping the club to a third-place finish in 2023 before reaching the Grand Final the following season.
Her influence continued to grow, and in 2025 she was named vice-captain of Thunder. Leading the squad in interceptions, deflections, gains and pickups, Huckle once again demonstrated why she remains one of the Netball Super League’s elite defenders, combining defensive intelligence with leadership and consistency.
Her domestic performances also earned recognition on the international stage. Huckle made her senior debut for the England Roses in 2017 and was part of the squad that claimed the Europe Open Championship title.
Now, as she returns to London Mavericks ahead of the 2027 season, Huckle brings an unrivalled level of experience and leadership to Tamsin Greenway’s squad. A vocal presence on and off the court, Huckle is renowned for her game intelligence, physicality and ability to disrupt attacking play, while also bringing calmness and organisation to every defensive unit she leads. Fresh from helping Manchester Thunder lift the 2026 Netball Super League title, she returns to where her NSL career began with a winning mentality and championship pedigree that will add immense value to the Mavericks squad as they continue to build towards the 2027 season.
