Mavericks fans will welcome a mix of familiar faces and exciting new talent ahead of the groundbreaking 2025 Netball Super League season, as the club today unveiled five returning players and five new signings in their 10-player squad.
The team features multiple England internationals, experienced NSL veterans, exciting young players and two overseas signings who have experience of playing against the world’s best.
Returning players include England international Razia Quashie, who enters her tenth season as a Maverick. A defensive cornerstone of the squad, Quashie will resume her formidable partnership with the adaptable Vicki Oyesola, a graduate of the Mavericks pathway, who can play goal keeper, goal defence or wing defence. England centre Ellie Rattu will again bring leadership and tenacity to the midcourt, while sharpshooters Emma Thacker and Kira Rothwell add firepower to the attack.
New additions, Amelia Hall and Suzie Liverseidge arrive from Leeds Rhinos and Severn Stars respectively, to strengthen Mavericks’ midcourt potential, while last year’s NSL Young Player of the Season, wing defence Izzi Phillips, crosses the capital to join from London Pulse.
International experience comes in the form of London Mavericks’ two Australian recruits. Shooter Emily Andrew will arrive from Melbourne Vixens in October, alongside former Adelaide Thunderbirds’ goal defence Chelsea Blackman. Andrew stood out in the 2023 Australian Netball Championships where she was named Player of the Tournament, while Blackman is expected to add a unique defensive edge from her experience in the Suncorp Super Netball League.
London Mavericks have already unveiled a strong coaching line-up for the new season, having named Tamsin Greenway as Director of Netball, Camilla Buchanan as Head Coach and Mikki Austin as Assistant Coach.
Today’s squad announcement is the next step towards the NSL 2025, which Head Coach Camilla Buchanan can’t wait to start.
“I’ve been in the game for a long time,” she said, “but this is probably the most excited I’ve ever been for a season to start, as we move into the professional realm, with eight teams and all the excitement around the NSL 2025 and our ambitions for the sport.”
Speaking about the strength and versatility of the squad London Mavericks have assembled, Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway explained why she’s excited by each player and their combined potential.
“We’re retaining five players and we’re bringing in five new players, that’s brave,” she said. “We want to be bold and, in my mind, we can’t achieve what we want to achieve by playing safe.
“The ultimate aim is to win matches, as it is for all teams, but we also want to play exciting, entertaining netball. I’d rather play open and attacking netball than safe netball that will only get us so far.
“It was important for me to start building an attack end, because we were hesitant on the ball at times last season. It’s then our job to make sure we refine the attacking flair we have.
“We have a new team, so we don’t yet have the five or six years of stability and relationships that some teams have but that’s what we will build towards.
“We’ve brought in players for different reasons, players that want to learn a new position, players that want an opportunity to shine, players that have a point to prove, a real mix. When you mould those different personalities and motivations into the same journey, it becomes really exciting. I can’t wait for pre-season to start and to see the players in action on the court!”
