London Mavericks can confirm that mid-courter and former NSL champion, Amy Hepworth-Wain has been elevated from London Mavericks’ NXT Gen squad, securing a permanent place in the NSL squad, filling the vacancy left by the injured Vicki Oyesola.

Oyesola sustained an unfortunate knee injury in Round 1 against Cardiff Dragons and is now ruled out for the remainder of the season. The Mavericks family wish her a smooth and speedy rehabilitation and thank her for the leadership and support that she continues to provide from the sidelines.

Hepworth-Wain made her first appearance as a Maverick in Round 4 against Birmingham Panthers at the Brighton Centre, where she accumulated 15 feeds after being brought on as an impact player.

Since then, Amy has gone on to make 5 more appearances in Mavericks colours, culminating in a standout performance against Cardiff Dragons, where the C/WD went on to make 18 feeds, whilst also providing strength on the defensive side of the ball.

Having worked together at Storm and Wasps, Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway praised the impact that Hepworth-Wain has made since joining the squad.

“Losing Vicki’s leadership was a huge blow, she was vice-captain and a vocal presence on and off the court. But Amy brings many of the same qualities. From day one she wasn’t afraid to speak up, she’s ‘been there, done it,’ and the group respects her instantly. You can already see how her experience is lifting our mid-court in every match she’s played.

“I’ve known Amy since she was seventeen, when we worked together at Surrey Storm, and we actually sounded her out at the start of this season about rejoining through NXT Gen. I know exactly what she offers: the ability to win ball, flip momentum at centre or wing defence, attack fearlessly and stay calm under pressure. Whenever you need it, ‘Super Amy’ finds you a turnover—and that’s exactly what she’s done so far. She’s been a fantastic addition, and the team loves having her around.

“At her very first session she walked in, chatted to everyone and immediately took charge on court. You can’t overstate how valuable that kind of experience is; it only comes with years at the top level, and Amy has it in spades.”

A four time Super League champion, Amy infuses the squad with championship-winning know-how—an edge that could prove decisive when the Mavericks meet London Pulse at the OVO Arena Wembley this Sunday.

Welcome to the family Amy!
