London Mavericks has today announced Sue Anstiss MBE as a new appointment to the club’s board as the sport prepares for the start of the professional era in 2025.
Fearless Women CEO, Sue Anstiss MBE, is widely recognised throughout the sporting community for driving change and accelerating growth in women’s sport, as well as uniting a powerful, inclusive community for women who work in sport as co-founder of the Women’s Sport Collective.
In 2018, Anstiss received an MBE for her services to women’s and grassroots sport and in 2023 was recognised in BBC Woman’s Hour Power List as one of 30 outstanding women in sport.
Speaking about her appointment, and the opportunity ahead for the club and the Netball Super League 2025, Anstiss said:
“It’s an honour to have been asked to join the board of such a pioneering club at a pivotal time for the sport. I have been inspired by London Mavericks’ owners, Olivia Hall and Lucy Wray, and by their gender equality vision, long-term investment plans and determination to create a better future for the next generation.
“We are all incredibly excited by the opportunity that lies ahead for the Netball Super League as a whole and are confident that London Mavericks can help to demonstrate the true potential for professional women’s sport.
“I love the way London Mavericks want to look at things differently. The purpose of most professional sports teams is to win. End of discussion. But today’s fans are more questioning about how much of a force for good their team is. The Mavericks believe, even when the final whistle goes, the responsibility doesn’t cease. They want to develop role models to inspire others in all walks of life and to empower the next generation of female athletes to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams.”
“London Mavericks have strong leaders throughout the club, just look at the coaching team in Tamsin Greenway, Camilla Buchanan, Mikki Austin and Mel Mansfield, and their CEO in Kieran Crombie. They are a pioneering group who are not afraid to question the norm. It is an environment which will help to develop the next generation of leaders from within.”
Speaking about Anstiss’s appointment, London Mavericks co-owner, Lucy Wray, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Sue to our board and to the wider Mavericks family. Sue is highly regarded for her track record in driving change within the sports industry, for pushing boundaries and showing what’s possible. She celebrates game changers across sport and business and has inspired women nationwide to achieve their goals, be that in a sports arena or a boardroom. The club will also benefit from Sue’s strong marketing expertise.”
Co-owner Olivia Hall added:
“This is an incredibly exciting time for the club as we look to build a strong and diverse board. We will announce further board members in the coming months. As important to us as a person’s commercial achievements is a passion to see women’s sport succeed, and a commitment to enact positive change in society through sport and its role models. We want to create a people-first, values driven organisation that drives success on the court and inspires lasting social impact off it, putting fans and players at the heart of all we do. That culture starts from the top, and we are thrilled to start building our board with a high calibre of professionals who are committed to bringing our vision to life.”
London Mavericks fixtures are available to book here. Alongside games at Hertfordshire Sports Village, two of London Mavericks matches will be held at the Ovo Arena Wembley (Sunday 11th May and Sunday 15th June). A further fixture will be hosted at The Brentwood Centre (Sunday 23rd March), a new venue for Mavericks to enable fans from the East of England to be able to access their games more easily.
