The opening quarter delivered exactly what a semi-final promises — fierce intensity and high stakes from the first whistle. Both teams applied relentless pressure early on, with Emily Andrew and Emma Thacker quickly finding their rhythm. Ellie Rattu’s urgency in the midcourt hinted at promising momentum for the Mavericks. However, the home side seized control late in the quarter, asserting dominance to take a 24-13 lead into the second.

Mavericks struck first in the second quarter, signalling the start of a potential comeback. Despite their unwavering commitment—covering every inch of the court and battling tenaciously on both ends—Thunder steadily extended their advantage. Emma Thacker continued to keep the scoreboard ticking for Mavericks, linking seamlessly with Amelia Hall, whose standout over-the-top feeds showcased precision and creativity. By halftime, Thunder had solidified their position, firmly in the driver’s seat.

The third quarter saw the introduction of George Inger, who wasted no time making her presence felt. Mavericks came out firing, intent on sparking a comeback with moments of brilliance throughout. Yet, Thunder’s relentless pressure proved too formidable, as they further stretched their lead.

In the final quarter, the Mavericks aimed to finish the season with pride and determination after a challenging semi-final fixture. Kira Rothwell’s energetic return to the court lifted the team, her hunger for the ball igniting a spirited fightback. The squad pulled together some beautifully worked netball to close out the match on a positive note. The final score read 79-49.
