In a dramatic clash that went right down to the wire, it was Emily Andrew who delivered the match-winning moment, sinking a composed shot in the final seconds to hand Mavericks a nail-biting win over Birmingham Panthers. 

Panthers started the game with purpose, taking early control and dominating the opening stages. They made the most of their opportunities in the circle, converting with consistency and tempo, it kept the Mavericks’ defence working overtime, as Panthers built a steady lead. 

Emma Thacker kept Mavericks in touch during a challenging first half, shooting with precision and confidence. She was clinical under the post, converting the majority of her attempts and keeping the scoreboard ticking over when her side needed it most. 

After a slow start, Mavericks began to find their rhythm following key adjustments mid-game. The introduction of new signing Jemma Donoghue injected fresh energy into the line-up, as her intensity and pressure disrupted Panthers’ flow through court. Ellie Rattu took control, marshalling her teammates well and bringing composure to Mavericks’ attacking passages. 

Defensively, Mavericks stepped up significantly in the second half. New addition Amy Hepworth-Wain was a standout, reading the play brilliantly and picking up several crucial intercepts. Her relentless pressure and smart positioning kept Panthers from settling in attack and created vital turnover ball. 

The final quarter was nothing short of chaotic – a high-octane, back-and-forth contest that felt like a game of netball ping pong. Super shots flew at both ends as the lead changed hands multiple times. Both sides showed incredible grit and resilience, but it was Mavericks who capitalised when it mattered most. 

With the scores level in the dying seconds, it was Emily Andrew who rose to the occasion, holding her nerve to sink the decisive shot and seal the win in thrilling fashion. 

It was a gritty, come-from-behind performance full of heart, hustle, and belief – and a performance that will give Mavericks real confidence as the season gathers momentum.
