She gained valuable experience playing abroad with Australia's Queensland Firebirds, a well-established and competitive team in one of the top netball leagues in the world.
In addition to her playing career, Tamsin transitioned into coaching while still active on the court. She notably led Surrey Storm and Wasps Netball to multiple NSL finals as a coach, displaying her ability to excel in both roles. After a brief hiatus, Tamsin took on the role of Head Coach for the Scotland Thistles in 2020, guiding the Scottish national team through the 2023 Netball World Cup.
Currently, Tamsin is the Director of Netball at Saracens Mavericks, where she plays a key role in shaping the club’s future, both in the pathway program and with the senior team. Her extensive experience and leadership are instrumental in helping the Mavericks reach new levels of success.
As the Performance Pathway Lead, Sachel oversees the development of over 300 athletes and manages a team of 35 staff. She works closely with both Mavericks and England Netball to ensure a seamless progression of talent. Furthermore, Sachel also serves as the Head Coach for the Mavericks' Under-19 team, shaping the next generation of elite netball players.
As a player, Buchanan was highly respected for her passion and resilience on the court, qualities that have seamlessly transitioned into her coaching career. She has built a strong reputation for her expertise in player development, playing a crucial role in nurturing emerging talent at the London Mavericks. Her dedication and commitment continue to have a significant impact on the team's performance and the growth of individual players.
Camilla Buchanan has gained valuable experience by playing and coaching alongside some of the best in the world, which has significantly contributed to her development as a coach. Her exposure to high-level netball, both on the court and in coaching roles, has enriched her understanding of the game and honed her strategic and leadership skills. As she steps into this new era of netball, Buchanan is poised to grow even further in her expertise, bringing fresh insights and innovation to her coaching approach. Her journey promises to elevate both her own career and the future success of London Mavericks.
Since 2014, Mel has balanced her NSL coaching career with her role as Head of Netball and Senior Lecturer in Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Hertfordshire. Over the past decade, she has achieved notable success, securing back-to-back Super League titles with Wasps in 2017 and 2018, and winning six BUCS National trophies with the university.
Most recently, Mel worked as Assistant Coach at Surrey Storm alongside Head Coach Mikki Austin. In her new role, she will take on the position of Head Coach for Mavericks' feeder team, focusing on nurturing and developing the next generation of athletes in a newly established domestic league for the U23 age group.
Since 2018, Mikki has been a trailblazer at Surrey Storm, uniquely balancing the roles of Director of Netball, Head Coach, and player—an unparalleled achievement in the sport. Under her leadership, she played a pivotal role in rejuvenating Surrey Storm, guiding the team to the NSL finals in 2023, their first appearance since 2016. At the time, Mikki became the youngest coach in history to lead a team to the finals by over a decade, solidifying her status as one of the most promising coaches in netball.
Mikki’s contributions extend beyond winning titles; she is deeply committed to the personal development of her players, helping them grow as individuals with values and experiences that transcend the sport. This holistic approach has become a hallmark of her coaching philosophy.
Her influence has also spread to sports media, where she has worked as a commentator, reporter, and pundit for leading platforms like Sky Sports and Matchroom, demonstrating her extensive knowledge of netball and her passion for sharing it with a wider audience.
James’s passion for sport comes from the excitement of developing athletes to maximise their potential and pushing the boundaries at every opportunity. Witnessing the dedication and resilience within sport, especially netball, makes working within this incredibly rewarding, and pushes him to continue to empower female athletes. With netball at the forefront of female sport James is excited to see where take London Mavericks can progress in this new era of netball.
Her personal experience with a sports-related injury further inspired her to pursue a career focused on helping athletes recover and regain peak performance. Sophie's professional journey began in the NHS as a Rotational Physiotherapist, where she gained valuable experience across various medical specialties. Soon after, she transitioned into sports physiotherapy, joining the Mavericks to work directly with athletes.
Sophie is eager to apply her knowledge to ensure the athletes of the London Mavericks remain at their physical best. She’s thrilled to be a part of the team's vibrant environment, and her understanding of both rehabilitation and performance makes her a key contributor to the team's ongoing success. Her energy and dedication to athlete well-being drive her work every day
Using a structured coaching and mentoring framework, Dawn provides targeted support in key areas that address the challenges athletes face during these transitional periods. Working one-on-one with individuals, she helps them navigate the complexities of life beyond elite sport. Additionally, her work extends to the development and enhancement of national resources, knowledge, and skills related to athlete transition, ensuring a lasting impact on the wider sporting community.
Dawn’s empathetic approach, coupled with her deep understanding of athlete wellbeing, has been instrumental in guiding athletes through one of the most challenging phases of their careers, making her a trusted figure in elite sport.
She holds an undergraduate degree in Sports Science and recently completed her Master's in Performance Analysis at Loughborough University. Izzy began her journey with the Mavericks as an intern during her Master's program, where she specialized in reporting and provided direct support to the coaching staff. She introduced successful strategies around video and data analysis, enhancing team performance.
Izzy's primary goal is to harness the power of performance analysis to drive the team toward achieving its best possible results.
Since 2019, Laura has been at Middlesex University and is now Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science, where she also serves as the Programme Leader for the MSc in Sport and Exercise Nutrition. Her extensive academic background and applied experience makes her a key contributor to the development of future professionals in the field and athletes in professional sport.
Motivated by these experiences, Calum pursued a Psychology MSc at the University of East London, followed by a second Master's degree in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology. He is now an accredited coach with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
Since retiring from professional rugby in 2021, Calum has applied his expertise in psychological performance within the Saracens organisation, where he served as Head of Psychological Performance. His contributions were instrumental in the club's 2023 Premiership title, and several of his clients went on to excel in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
Calum has since left Saracens to expand the reach of his work, focusing on helping high-performing individuals across various industries unlock their potential through psychology. He now works as a high-performance psychologist, coach, and consultant. Driven by a passion for transforming human potential into peak performance, he founded Innate High Performance to further this mission.
