Pack your vegemite sandwiches and clip up your cork hats, because London Mavericks have just landed a major signing from Down Under! The towering 6’3” shooter, Emily Andrew, has made the trek from Australia to join the Mavericks for the 2025 Netball Super League season. Fresh off her stint as the Melbourne Vixens’ eleventh player, Andrew is ready to bring her unique blend of skill, size, and ambition to the UK.

At just 21 years old, Emily’s resume is already sparkling with accolades. She was crowned the Most Valuable Player at the 2023 Australian Netball Championships and earned a coveted spot in the 2023-24 Australian U21 squad. Now, she’s ready to make waves in the Netball Super League and Mavericks fans are in for a treat.

Director of Netball, Tamsin Greenway, knew she had struck gold when she discovered Emily. After doing her homework and watching extensive footage of the Aussie talent, Greenway was captivated by Andrew’s rare skill set.

“Shooters like Emily are a rarity,” Greenway said, brimming with excitement. “Big, tall, strong shooters are hard to come by. You’re either going to go for a target shooter or a moving shooter, but what excites me about Emily is that she can do both. She’s got this unique ability to stand and hold and be a dominant force in the circle, but she can also move and offload, creating space and working in an open circle.”

Andrew’s versatility isn’t the only thing that caught Greenway’s attention. Having spent the past season training with the Melbourne Vixens, one of Australia’s top teams, Emily comes equipped with invaluable experience.

“She’s been in the Vixens environment all year as their eleventh player, so she knows what a high-performance setup looks like,” Greenway added. “She’s also been a part of the Aussie pathway, and when you look at the players who have come through that system, they’ve gone on to do incredible things. It was really a no-brainer for us to bring her in. She’s got SSN (Suncorp Super Netball) ambitions, and I’m like, ‘Well, come over here and let’s help you achieve that.’”

For Emily, the decision to leave the sunny shores of Australia and embark on this new journey in London was a bold one. But she embodies the very spirit of what it means to be a Maverick – brave, bold, and ready to embrace the unexpected. Greenway is elated to have found a player with the Maverick mindset.

“To make that kind of decision, to uproot your life and buy into what we’re doing, it takes a certain type of player. That’s exactly the kind of person we want at Mavericks. Someone who’s willing to do something different, to take risks, and who’s excited by a challenge. Emily’s one of those people. We’ll give her the platform to shine, and I can’t wait to see what she’ll achieve here.”

With her move to London, Emily Andrew is ready to embrace the challenge head-on, and she’s eager to make her mark on the Netball Super League. Her transition from Australia to the UK represents not only a significant step in her own career but also an exciting chapter in the evolution of the Mavericks’ squad.

With Emily Andrew now in the mix, London Mavericks’ attack is set to take on an entirely new dimension. Mavericks fans, get ready for a season of electrifying netball! With Emily Andrew taking centre stage, this 2025 campaign is shaping up to be something truly special.
