After a standout season in 2024, the 6’2” sharpshooter is set to dazzle once again with her precision shooting. Whether stepping in as goal attack or goal shooter, Thacker has become one of the Mavericks’ most exciting players.
At just 21, Thacker has already shown glimpses of brilliance that have left fans eagerly awaiting her performances this season. Her sniper-like accuracy in front of goal has made her a fan favourite, and under the guidance of Director of Netball, Tamsin Greenway, the sky is truly the limit for Thacker.
“Emma can be absolutely lethal in both positions,” Greenway said. “She’s got this beautiful shot, and it’s given her the opportunity to shine, whether she’s playing goal attack or goal shooter. But what makes Emma special is not just her skill, she’s such a funny character to have around. She’s always doing something to make everyone laugh, and at the same time, she’s constantly pushing herself to get better. Her potential is enormous.”
Thacker’s first season with the Mavericks saw her growing not just as a player but as a key part of the team’s chemistry. She reflects on the experience as one full of challenges that ultimately helped her develop as a player.
“I love what we built last year, throughout the season. We faced a lot of tough challenges, but the determination from the team and the support from the coaching staff were incredible. I felt like I really grew as a player, and now I’m just excited to keep building and taking it to the next level this season.”
In 2025, Emma will be surrounded by new faces and exciting signings, including Emily Andrew, Amelia Hall, Suzie Liverseidge, Izzi Phillips, and Chelsea Blackman. She’s eager to forge strong connections with her new teammates and keep improving her already impressive game.
“I think this season is all about consistency for me, I want to consistently deliver strong performances, and I’m excited to work with the new players around me in the shooting circle. Developing those connections on the court is key, and I can’t wait to see how we all come together as a team.”
Tamsin Greenway believes this will be the season where Emma’s true potential starts to unfold in a big way.
“Emma can literally shoot from anywhere on the court,” Greenway said with a smile. “Her shot is just so smooth, and she’s fearless about taking it from any position. This season, we’re going to focus on refining that shot selection and helping her mature as a player. She’s already lethal, but I think as she develops her decision-making, she’s going to be unstoppable. If we ever get a ‘super shot’ in this league, I’ve no doubt Emma will be the one nailing it for us!”
